  1. Not sword related per se, but is Japanese history. Going through a deceased relatives things at the moment. I found this. It seems to be a scroll from the Russo-Japanese war depicting the military leadership. No idea when the thing was actually made, I thought id post it here in case its of interest to anyone. More than happy to provide more detailed images etc of things if people want them. Would I be right in suggesting that post 1868 the military was probably drawn from the old samurai class? Reasonable chance then some of these guys were the last generation of those that could consider themselves truly samurai?
  2. Thanks Bruce, its much appreciated!
  3. Hi all, This is out of my league, I got this from a deceased relative. Ive been trying to work out what it is and think I have made progress. Just looking for some confirmation and if someone is willing perhaps even a ballpark value? Its of no emotional significance to anyone in the family so in the classic 'keep it as a curio or sell it?' conundrum. Pictures attached, but what I think, from very uninformed research is: Stock standard Naval officers dirk - of the 'modified 1883 pattern' (Based on Military sword of Japan book) The stamp I think is the somewhat eroded mark of 'Suya Sho Ten'? (Based on sticky here) Nothing of not about, machine made blade etc - probably ww2?? Condition is what it is... Is this right? Is there anything else that's worth knowing (or not?) about it? Thanks in advance for helping out
