  1. To pete: I wanted to know if anyone had prior knowledge about shinsa that could be useful. I live in canada To Chris: The last known owner does not own the certificate. And I've contacted him to know wich NTHK he has submitted. I'll post the result as soon as I get the answer. Thanks!
  2. I'm planning on getting it real soon although I don't know when. I currently have The Connoisseurs Book of Japanese Swords and The Craft of the Japanese Sword wich I bought a few months ago. But I still want to possess a lot more knowledge before I buy my first nihonto. However, the funny thing is that i've been studying Japanese history/culture for many years and language for a bit more than a year (all on my free time). So, a friend bought me a Shirasaya Wakizashi yesterday as he was impress by my dedication on the subject. While I decided to double my effort about nihonto, having a piece to study so early is quite an interesting assiduous challenge and very stimulating. Picture of the Wakizashi in this thread viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18673 Finally, this thread was my first practice study to get pointer to eventually deepens my knowledge on nihonto so that my first purchase would be the prize of present and futur acomplishment.
  3. Nice! I tought so, I had compared the Kanji from an official NTHK document. Domo arigato gozaimasu. Does anyone know if it's possible to get an official certificate from NTHK with this tag? If not, what is the procedure to get a certificate from either NTHK or NBTHK? (time to get appraisal, Price, effect on value) This nihonto is mine, it was given to me and I would really like to know everything there is to know about it! Thank you everyone for your help. Antoine
  4. Here are the picture of the Sword with this paper. I knew its written seki ju kanenobu, but a sell tag, really?
  5. Added the picture to the first post. Antoine
  6. Hi everyone, I've come across this paper and I would like to know what it is and what it says. I think that it's from the NTHK but other than that I don't know. Any help is greatly apreciated. Thanks, Antoine Edit: Haha, Indeed I forgot. -Added picture-
  7. Oh well, that would be an exercise for another time since I do not own the wakizashi. However it was a pleasing experience, I'll have another subject to study soon enough. Antoine
  8. Thanks for your help! I clearly think it's a gimei now, the difference between each stroke of the kanji is far to apparent. Each stroke in your picture is clear, precise and gracious. The one in my picture is crude and clumsy. It show a proeminent lack in craftmaiship. Clearly a Gimei! i suspect the sword to be fake too with an almost indistinguishable Hamon. What do you think? Antoine Edit: Where can I buy this book and is it primarly in Hiragana, Katakana or Kanji? Arigato
  9. Hi everyone, I'd like to know if someone have information about Kozuke Kanesada and it's possible to prove it's a gimei or an authentique Wakizashi made by Kozuke Kanesada. I think it might not be legit but it's my first time identifying a sword so, I might be wrong. Thanks! Antoine
  10. Sadly, I do not possess any books that mention him but I've found many time his name on the internet. So, I could'nt find an exemple of his craftmanship. However, I've noticed a variance in his name in the database kozuke kami "fujiwara" kanesada. I'll post in the nihonto section to know if its a gimei. Antoine
  11. Yes i'm currently searching there and ive found http://nihontoclub.com/ wich have a good database too. so the fun begin Well I was hoping there might be other sord made by the same smith so I could compare his craft. Antoine
  12. That was quick thanks! I can now search how old is the sword!!
  13. Hi everyone, I am unable to properly identify and translate this signature. I think the first and second Kanji is 上野 but there is still three left. Thanks for your help, Antoine
