The note appeared to be folded and wrapped in the pieces shown at the bottom of the photos. It appears it was placed there on purpose given how it was wrapped. Folks that have looked at it say the writing is from a period when Chinese and Japanese characters were fairly close.

We found this note in the scabbard of on old (1600 - 1700?) Japanese sword. Am looking for a translation or any information as to why this might have been put in the scabbard.
