This is a Wakizashi from my collection it looks like someone has been handing the blade for the last 60 yr and there are marks all over it from being touched
i have been using Uchiko pwder to try clean it up but it seems to take forever
i was wondering it i keep at it will it bring it back to life and if by looking at the blade any idea on age
Im also told it was most likely a tank commanders sword it this possible
thank Steve
Hi George
The binding is pretty bad below is a photo i found of it from its original sale but i would say the cover has been removed a few time after that before i got it and the are bit of the wrap missing
maybe carefully removing the cover and framing it in a double glass frame so you can see both side may help in keep it in good condition
Steve
These mounts are off a sword i picked up a short time ago and was wonder for a little advice on weather to have the tsuka rewraped
under the cover the wrap is about 40% deteriorated
I have had the cover off once but its very fragile
The Blade is signed Hizen no Kuni ju Ichimonji Hiroto and dated 1740
I was wondering would I add value to the sword if i had it rewraped or would I be best to leave it as found
All the mount including the tsuka are numbered 71 not sure if that means anything
thanks in advance
Steve
Could someone please point me in the right direction for sword care there are a lot of sites out there but want to make sure i get it right
Eg how offen to clean
how much oil to use
best kit to buy
that sort of stuff
thanks in advance
steve
Hi Roy
The script on the Tsuka has translation on it one side Japanese the other is english
first bit a bit hard to read but rhe rest says "first eductional aircorps Specail Sergeant Major Masake Nakamura"
I was confused with a Sergeant Major having an officers sword but have found out while rare it did happen with high ranked NCOs
Most WW2 tsubas ive seen are brass but this seems to be copper or similar
all fittings are matching and high end and come off a sword signed Hizen no Kuni ju Ichimonji Hiroto and come with crest
has anyone else come across these
