Though I do not have that particular book, I have several others and from my research the meeting of the shinogi with the mune seems to happen just short of the kissaki in most cases. (including the diagram in the Connoisseur's... book) But that's beside the point as I see though that the sugata does seem to be more in keeping with a nagamaki naoshi.
Thanks again for that idea as an image search for nagamaki naoshi definitely shows more pieces that bear a resemblance to this one.
On another note... when did that book become unavailable.. I had thought of purchasing it in the past but now the only stock on amazon is $150! Has this gone the way of the Connoisseur's Book of Japanese Swords?
