  1. Hi Chris, Thank you very much for taking the time to translate it. It was a good friend of mine that sent it to you. I was just curios if it were possible the blade was older ? Was there an earlier generation of this or these smiths working in the Koto period? Does the piece have typical period Shinto charachteristics? Thank again you for your time and response. I suppose anything is possible but according the Meikan, which is the smith bible, there were no earlier generations signing this way. Looks pretty shinto to me, as far as I can see from the photos.... Thank you Chris , I appreciate it.

  3. I recently picked up this 11.5 inch tanto. A very knowledgeable gentleman translated the signature for a friend of mine .The last character is difficult to read. A good friend of mine says it is 1661 HIGO JU HIRONAGA‏. The guy I purchased it from says the blade is from the 1400's? Does anyone recognize the signature or have any idea if it could be older than shinto?
