raiden Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 since it is the year of the dragon.....and signed, and certified.......property of the Tsuchiya Daimyo Quote
Ford Hallam Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Cheers Mike That's pretty impressive. His versatility and the expressiveness of his compositions are inevitably brilliant. I did actually have a single image of this piece but it's very poorly focussed. These are really great and allow his workmanship and artistry to be properly appreciated. In hand would be preferable though ...hint, hint :D Quote
runagmc Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 That may be the nicest dragon themed tsuba I can remember seeing... Quote
Ludolf Richter Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Hi Mike,do you have info about "property of the Tsuchiya Daimyo".From my knowledge, there was no more Daimyo of Mito at the time, the artist made this fine Tsuba ("Meiji 5"= 1872),when the 9th (and last) Daimyo of Mito became the 15th Shogun, fought against the troops of the emperor in the Boshin War,lost finally in 1867 and resigned (and got interested in photograhy and bicycle riding!).I have 28 examples from this artist in my database. That Dragon-Tsuba ist the only example, where he did not use his Kao behind his Go but added "respectfully carved this".Ludolf Quote
Ford Hallam Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 I have some scans of BNTHK published Hagia Katsuhira work here. The workmanship of his dragon tsuba is the same, in my opinion. And this example has a similar inscription to Mikes example. There's no question in my mind about Mike's Katsuhira, it's quite magnificent. My image of the same tsuba. Quote
