runagmc Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Hey guys, I was wondering if anybody had any pictures of Osumi no jo Masahiro's work. I know he was suppose to be one of the best students of Horikawa Kunihiro and a 'sai jo saku' smith. I've only seen pictures of one of his swords. Here's the one I've seen, Has anyone seen much of his work? I've been looking for a while and never see anything from him, while alot of the other smiths from the Kunihiro school seem to be fairly numerous. Anyway, I just wanted to see if I could get some info, if anybody wants to share... Quote
DanielLee Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 http://www.tsuruginoya.com/mn1_3/f00018.html Here's another one, had the fortunate chance to study this blade during a previous DTI. It was forged to resemble an osuriage blade. Not many signed works by this smith as he mainly did dai saku for Kunihiro. Quote
runagmc Posted November 21, 2011 Author Report Posted November 21, 2011 Thanks Daniel, that looks like an impressive sword. Mabey that's why Masahiro seems to be somewhat overlooked today, because of the lack of work. For a smith of that period to be so highly ranked I would think there would need to be a good number of swords to judge. Are there any known features used to differentiate Kunihiro dai saku by Masahiro from genuine Kunihiro work? Quote

DanielLee Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 By the way, if I recall correctly, Masahiro is a jo jo saku rated smith. Quote
