Falcs Posted May 28, 2016 Report Posted May 28, 2016 Thank you in advance for any help you can offer I recently aquired this sword at a local auction. The overall length is 63cm. Strangely the laquered scabbard is much longer and the Tsuba is loose so most probably do not belong together. Thanks Richard Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted May 28, 2016 Report Posted May 28, 2016 I think it reads 豊後住久行 Bungo ju Hisayuki. Quote
IanB Posted May 28, 2016 Report Posted May 28, 2016 Jussi, Not 'Hisayuki' but Tomoyuki 友行 I think. A smith who signed with the same signature on Richard's blade was working in 1394 but that is way too early. A far more likely candidate is a smith working in 1688 who usually signed Hoshu Takata ju Fujiwara Tomoyuki, 豊州高田住藤原友行 is a better bet. Ian Bottomley 2 Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted May 28, 2016 Report Posted May 28, 2016 I agree Ian it most likely is Tomoyuki. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/3699-bungo-tomoyuki-collection/ Quote
