These are the four blades from my recent thread in the Nihonto section, where members kindly explained what they are:
https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/56728-four-cut-down-blades-with-habaki-%E2%80%94-help-identifying-and-understanding-what-i-have/
As discussed there, these appear to be genuine nihonto that were cut down in Japan, most likely to avoid the sword registration process rather than during the postwar period. They are scrap in collecting terms, but useful as study and practice material — examining the cross-section for forging construction, polishing practice without any real risk, or taking apart the habaki to see how it was made.
1. Overall 25 cm, blade above habaki 12 cm, nakago with 3 mekugi-ana, brass habaki
2. Overall 25 cm, blade above habaki 11 cm, nakago with 3 mekugi-ana, copper habaki
3. Similar dimensions, nakago with 4 mekugi-ana, copper habaki.
Note: two members of the identification thread raised doubts about whether this one is Japanese — the nakago surface and overall shape drew comment. Please read the thread and judge for yourself.
4. Similar dimensions, nakago with 2 mekugi-ana, brass habaki
Exact measurements for any individual piece available on request.
No mei is legible on any of them. None have been polished, cleaned, or altered in any way — they are exactly as I received them, and I have deliberately left them alone.
I do not have a fixed price in mind, as I have no real sense of what these are worth. Offers welcome, for individual pieces or for all four together. I would rather they went to someone who can actually make use of them than sit in a drawer.
