Hi all, This bayonet belonged to my father, and I'm trying to learn more about it. Based on the hooked quillon, wood grips, and muzzle ring, I believe it's a Japanese Type 30 bayonet. Markings I can see: Three stacked circles on the blade ricasso, alongside what appears to be a single kanji character (photo attached) — I understand the three-circle "stacked cannonball" mark generally indicates Tokyo Arsenal (pre-1936) or Kokura Arsenal (1936–1945), but I'd love help narrowing it down and identifying the accompanying character/sub-contractor mark Serial number 81047 stamped on the pommel A separate small fitting (possibly scabbard throat or frog stud) with two kanji characters stamped vertically — not sure if this is related to the bayonet itself or a separate piece I don't currently have the scabbard or rifle, just the bayonet itself. Would appreciate any help with: Confirming arsenal/manufacturer based on the marks Roughly dating it based on serial number range and quillon style (mine has the hooked quillon) Anything else notable about this example Photos attached: full bayonet, ricasso markings close-up, pommel/serial number, and the separate stamped fitting. Hello all, This is my father's sword, and I'm hoping to learn more about it. I had a letter from several years ago (from someone named Arch Stanton, dated 2011) that identified it as follows: Mei on one side of nakago: Bishu Osafune Norimitsu Mei on other side: dated Bunki 4 (1504) Classified as a wakizashi Measurements: nagasa (blade length) approximately 22¼", overall length with handle about 26". The sword is currently mounted in what looks like a leather-covered military-style saya (see photos), suggesting it may have been remounted for WWII service at some point, though the blade itself is much older. I'd love any help with: Confirming or refining the reading of the mei (photos of the nakago attached) Which generation of Norimitsu this might be, given the date Any insight into the koshirae/military mount — era, type, anything notable General thoughts on next steps if I wanted formal NBTHK papers down the road Photos attached: full sword, nakago , tsuba/fuchi/habaki close-ups, and the saya.
