  1. Thank you for your help! I guess I am just perpetually skeptical, but the consensus seems to be that it is truly nihonto, though probably gimei. I think I will try to get it, unless the auction goes too high.
  2. I like this katana... but am fairly certain it is gimei... That doesn't necessarily bother me too much. However, I also kind of think it might not be a true nihonto at all. Maybe a modern Korean or Chinese knock off. In which case, I'm not really that interested in it. The grain pattern and polish don't necessarily look super fake to me (for what I assume is a recently polished blade,) but the hamon looks a bit too perfect and the nakago almost looks falsely aged(?) Reminds me (stylistically at least) of some of the more "expensive" Chinese manufactured katana's (ex: ebay's GLW sword,) but with a false aged nakago and shirasaya mount instead of the normal koshirae they are typically seen with. Any thoughts?
  3. Thank you for the advice. I do like the look of the (ebay) sword and it appears to have paperwork (NBTHK Hozon?, and another I'm not familiar with), but the description leaves a little to be desired and the photos aren't exactly super clear either. I just added my name to the "signature" line, I think that's what you mean. Or did you mean use my first name as username? Sorry, I will change my username to my first name if necessary.
  4. I've been following the item for a few weeks and its been re-listed once without bids, so I'm fairly sure I could get it for near the 2,800 mark. My limit is 4000 for a little self indulgent holiday splurge.
  5. Complete newb here looking for some opinions on this ebay auction. Just looking for a nice looking authentic wall-hanger that's not gonna break the bank. Sword looks really nice, but confused about why some paperwork refers to it as a waki and the auction refers to it as tachi. I asked the seller and here was his response: "Hello. Thank you for your interest in this item. 77cm is the overall length of the blade. Does not include blade length The length of the blade alone is 54.3cm. The registration card is Wakizashi. But this is used as Tachi. Thank you. Best Regards." I would certainly appreciate any feedback or help. Any other general comments would be very appreciated. https://www.ebay.com/itm/163992060497?ViewItem=&item=163992060497
