  4. hi stephen just trying to keep the mind active mate and it only took a day but with a lot of " oops try that again" if you know what I mean. so hows the shape of the blade look to you?? shaun
  5. Hi everyone, I was playing around in the garage the other day and ended up making this little sword from a three inch nail and some wood I had lying around. the blade has an etched hamon (to small to photograph) the tsuba is copper with gold gilt and the tsuka is wraped in cotton. It took most of the day but was a lot of fun, I then showed the wife and she stitched up the sword bag and yes it is real Japanese silk and fully lined, gotta love her. Anyway just thought I'd share my fist adventure into sword making..........can't wait to make a full size one.....ha ha!!
  6. Thanks Bungo, do you know if they have shinsa in Australia? I guess being bungoed is not the best outcome hey Thanks Shaun
  7. Hi Ichi, thanks for the information and if knowing all that without having a book makes you a newbie, then I have a very long way to go. I have only had this my first and only sword for about 1 month. I got it from my grandfather and he's had it for over 60 years and I doubt he ever looked after it at all. I have no idea where he got the sword from or even when If you would like to, could you check through your book and see what it says I would be very grateful for that and I'll do some research on what you told me. Thanks Shaun
  8. thanks David for your comments, I will research swordsmiths that don't sign their blades to see what I can find, if you know of any please let me know. I don't think the rust can be used to govern a time frame as I received it with no tsuka so I would say its been handled a lot by the bare tang. As for the rust pitting I hope it can be polished out. Do you know if delamination splits can be fixed? thanks again. SHAUN
