Dear Rob

 

I have a note that says some of his blades have Seki stamps so

he did make showato. Not sure if he make gendaito.

 

And if you are looking up information on the internet note that there

is a Miyaguchi Ikkansai Toshihiro that is listed as a very good smith

 

but the kanji for your Toshi is different from the Toshi for Miyaguchi Toshihiro.

thanks for that. Do you know if this guy is a typical showato smith or did he produce gendaito?

Hi, just a slight correction, I think this family name is ASAI, not Arai....there is an Asai Toshihide listed as a Seki kaji...started work on Sho 16 - August 18. His full name is Asai Kazushige (I think). Very few of these Seki Kaji made any swords other than showato.
