Sword was brought back from WWII, having no luck translating any of it, could someone help? Have other pictures and accessories with sword if someone would be interested in translating. Looks like who ever owned the sword before WWII wanted it back with all the accessories. It has all kinds of info including address and other stuff like that. Thanks for your time.

Older sword took to war, a lot of these Kanesada blades are gimei blades that is to say a big name was placed on the tang to bolster sales. The tag is a transportation tag, showing his home address and what railway station and train it was on. I cant see all of it but better eyes will prevail.

Is there any way of telling how old it is? And are you saying that someone put a big name on the sword? Its been in the family since my grandfather brought it back from WWII. Anyone know of a translater who could read all of this near the western new york area?

gimei means forged signature like you signed a painting a Picasso, been doing it for centuries. Bigger the name the better the chance its gimei. would be nice to see pix of the blade for a better tell, as of now somewhere in 1600's?

Not all tags are surrender tags and this one is a transport tag.

here is a bit about kanesada, for you to compair.

a full shot of the blade out of fittings would be nice to see the nagasa of the blade. maybe pix's of the fittings close up...habaki looks well done. i think so far its a very nice blade. if the saya doe not get translated ill rotat the pix so the kanmji are right side up instead of sideways.

Hi, never did get a name for you,

I think we can proceed figuring that this is gimei; no one spoke in favor of the signature and it seems very wrong for Kanesada. 28" tip to tip makes this wakizashi length, maybe 22" on the cutting edge. We know very little about the condition and possible flaws, so a guess at value is just that, a guess. I would think this would sell for at least $450 and probably not more than $800, unless you can find 2 knuckleheads on ebay who both think the signature is genuine and decide to duke it out.

Anyone have a better idea?
