Justin Grant Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 Can anyone identify this mekuni? New, Older (40's) or real old? Thank you! Justin Quote
tony edmunds Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Hi Justin I believe these are matsu ( pine) motif. I have a very similar set on a tsuka which is definitely an Edo period "court" style mounting (with horn kashira and shakudo nanako fuchi). I believe my set could be solid gold which is unusual. Jean Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Dear Justin, You are suffering from a common disease which is called "dyslexia". You should say "Menuki" and not "Mekuni" (Smilies..) Quote
Justin Grant Posted March 13, 2010 Author Report Posted March 13, 2010 Jean- Oops. Can't believe I did that.. Uploaded this post via my cellphone and either fat fingered it or the spell check on the phone did it... Tony- Thank you. I have never seen these before. Mine are not gold, they are brass or copper, they have some green oxidation on them starting to form. I was told these are modern, sometime in the last 40 years. Thanks again guys. Quote
Brian Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Justin To me they look fairly thin and pressed brass. In that case, they could be earlier mass production, or modern. Neither are particularly good I'm afraid, but they serve the purpose. Brian Quote
