jutettsu8 Posted Wednesday at 10:47 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 10:47 AM Hello, Recently I have come across this kabuto and menpo set. It's advertised as a mid-late Edo period Northern style piece. I do have a soft spot for Northern style armor. Does this one seem genuine and is my guess correct of it being of Northern Japanese origin? I'm a beginner in collecting armor, so any information is helpful!🙏 Thank you in advance Jonas Quote
Gilles Posted Wednesday at 11:11 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 11:11 AM Hello, Menpo looks legit and may dates from mid to late Edo. This menpo is not especially from the northern territory. just my opinion. 1 Quote
Luc T Posted Wednesday at 11:29 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 11:29 AM Yes, this is the work from East (or North) Japan, Tohoku region. 2 Quote
uwe Posted Wednesday at 03:56 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 03:56 PM I can echo, Luc! Maedate seems to be a replica, though… 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted Wednesday at 04:01 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 04:01 PM 10/12-plate suji kabuto? Many of the features are hard to see, as it's all black lacquer. Does it have shiten-no-byo and hibiki-ana in the four directions? 1 Quote
jutettsu8 Posted Wednesday at 05:19 PM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 05:19 PM Thank you everyone! Mid to late Edo period and Tohoku region it is then!👍 Uwe, yes you are correct, the maedate is indeed a replica. Piers, true....it's not very easy to spot these in those pictures. I can see all 4 hibiki-ana, however I can't see the shiten-no-byo at all. Doesn't seem like it has those. However let me add a picture which might help clear this up a bit. 3 Quote
