Prewar70 Posted May 7 Report Posted May 7 https://sanmei.com/contents/media/F2339_S1495_PUP_E.html I think this is a beautiful sword. It does not seem too unfairly priced but yet it is not sold. I am only an amateur with thoughts that I’ve crossed my mind that may be holding it back is it’s length. Is this also a den attribution? the Hon’ami papers are nice and it is unfortunate that the sword got separated from it Sayagaki. Being in Japan, I’m sure it has been submitted to juyo but not passed. that is probably a reasonable assumption? Anyways, I think it is very attractive with no obvious flaws. Quote
Toryu2020 Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 James I am sure it is a nice sword - however the photos only seem to show the hadori and not the actual Hamon and activity within. I would want better photos... -t 1 Quote
Rivkin Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 Yeap, no hamon, no hada, a lot of hadori. Its probably dead tired. Quote
Franco Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 Thoughts; On the short side. Also, I would factor in the cost, time, possible risks of a new high quality polish. Now you're in the $12,000 plus range for a short katana. Could be a very good sword. Needs to be studied in hand. Return policy? Shipping back and forth risks? If only nihonto collecting were easy? Desire is the cause of suffering. Quote
Prewar70 Posted May 8 Author Report Posted May 8 I requested better pictures showing detail, but it was suggested that I see the blade in person. That is unfortunate as I’m sure they are capable and most likely confirms that the blade is very tired, and therefore not in line with the price. Quote
Rawa Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 Its really strange that with blade priced that much providing additional photos is such a big deal. Quote
Rivkin Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 They have standard settings to take pictures and they are not going to take additional ones upon request. The pictures they do have are basically sufficient. Its either tired or very poorly polished. 1 Quote
Prewar70 Posted May 8 Author Report Posted May 8 Now that I think about it, I’ve seen auction houses that sell anything and everything take better detailed pictures of Japanese swords Quote

It's always looked to me like that dealer uses extremely warm light tones (3000k-ish) and over exposure that is blowing out the hamon detail. Quote
