Michaelr Posted November 29 Report Posted November 29 Ok what exactly do I have here? I just posted the Nakago in the translation section for help but am posting the whole sword here for help and discussion. First I have never seen a Hamon like this before. Second the Tsuba appears to have been reworked to accommodate the center lock/release. I have never seen a Sarute that appears to have a small screw head on both sides. The Saya is the early gloss green paint. Now the important part there is two hot stamps a on the Nakago that I found in Slough’s book on page 65 and 98. The one on page 98 has both stamps as does this example. I will attach a lot of picture so be patient and check them out if any other information is needed just let me know. Ok let’s talk. Thank you all in advance. MikeR 1 Quote
Conway S Posted November 29 Report Posted November 29 Mike, Signed Masafusa. Plenty of details on the forum about the kobuse method. Looks like you previously wanted to buy a similar sword! Conway 1 Quote
Michaelr Posted November 29 Author Report Posted November 29 Please let me know when I wanted to buy a similar sword? I think that I would remember. Maybe enlighten me. So then are you saying that everything about this sword is common? It also seems to have two long inscriptions to just say Masafusa. Thank you for your help. Mike Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted November 30 Report Posted November 30 Quite an interesting piece, one guesses the original pierced Tsuba and Seppa have been swapped out. Quote

Polaria Posted November 30 Report Posted November 30 I would guess the screws holding the sarute are a field replacement or repair by unit level armorer when the original have been broken or lost. Quote

The re-worked tsuba would go along with this idea, too. I haven't seen a hamon that changes for fancy to suguha before, but I don't study that stuff. Quite unusual! I have 8 other Masafusa with one or both stamps, but an interesting one has the exact same mei, but just the registrations stamp, posted by @David McDonald back in 2013: Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted November 30 Report Posted November 30 Only 2 of the other 8 showed the hamon. Each was quite exotic, and different from the next one. Quote

Mike @Michaelr In the post I linked above, you said "Great job Tom. Just saved me some money. I was right behind you. Congratulations to both of you. MikeR...." Which implies you were interested in the sword posted for sale (also a Masafusa). Quote
