Yves Posted November 23 Report Posted November 23 I'm currently looking into purchasing an armour in Tokyo and would like someone who's knowledgeable to take a look at it. Can someone refer me to an expert in Tokyo? Quote
uwe Posted November 24 Report Posted November 24 It would be difficult to get an independent opinion at the spot from an expert or collector. Some knowledgeable dealers are around but I guess best would be to contact the NKBKHK… Otherwise you can post some pictures here! Quote
uwe Posted November 24 Report Posted November 24 Looks not bad, what exactly do you like to know? Quote
Yves Posted November 24 Author Report Posted November 24 Somehow it seems to have had a restauration. Not sure though. What would the approximate value be? Helmet is Saotome Ietada (confirmed signature) I doubted a long time to buy it, but I'm going to push on. Still looking in shipping and insurance options which is a challenge as well. Quote

Iekatsu Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 Hello Yves, The armour is composite, meaning that the armour has be complied from unrelated components in modern times. It has been recently relaced, to make it look more like a matching set. The Sangu (arms, thighs, shins) do not match and the Haidate (thighs) have been heavily restored, a lot of the silk has been replaced. There is some nice individual pieces in there, including the kabuto, but the armour being composite has a pretty big effect on the value, as can extensive restoration. At the current asking price a much better armour can be found. 1 3 Quote

uwe Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 Sorry, I’m a bit late, but have to mostly agree with Thomas in his judgement. The seller is manly specialized in swords and it’s a pending sale. Hence I like to refrain from a value assessment… Quote

I have not seen it in person, but the photos on the website are high enough resolution to form a judgement. Unlike swords, armour can be easily judged from photos as long as you have the right angles and know what you are looking at. If you want a thorough deep dive, DM me. Quote

Jacques D. Posted December 1 Report Posted December 1 I would like to recommend this establishment, whose owner I know very well and whose articles are of a very high standard (the price is also high). As far as I know, he doesn't sell over the Internet, at least not the top of the range. http://www.japansword.co.jp/ Quote

Pokud vím, přes internet neprodává, alespoň ne vrchol sortimentu. http://www.japansword.co.jp/ So your friend is going to Aoi Art to look at the armor? Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted December 2 Report Posted December 2 Hi Simon, Not sure I get the sense of the message to Jaques D Japan Sword Company is Inami San in Toranomon. Aoi Art is Tsuruta San in Shibuya. 1 Quote
