Lexvdjagt Posted October 7, 2024 Report Posted October 7, 2024 Dear NMB, I am selling this wakizashi signed: Hitachi Kami Muneshige 常陸守宗重 Motte Nanbatetsu Saku Kore 以南蛮鉄作之 Includes AOI art Oshigata, NBTHK hozon papers, and a sword bag, comes in shirasaya. Dimensions: Fittings (Tsuba): Double-layered copper base Blade Length: 53.9 centimeters (21.22 in) Curvature: 0.5 centimeters (0.2 in) Mekugi-ana (Peg Hole): 1 Width at Base (Motohaba): 2.8 centimeters (1.10 in) Width at Tip (Sakihaba): 1.85 centimeters (0.73 in) Thickness (Kasane): 0.59 centimeters (0.23 in) Description from AOI: Shape: Regular width and thickness, nice shaped Wakizashi. Hada (Grain Pattern): Small itame-hada well-kneaded, becoming Osaka hada. Hamon (Temper Pattern): The nie appears deeply, similar to the era before the production of the turbulent hamon in Tsuda Sukehiro 2nd generation. It seems to have been made in an era when he worked alongside Sukehiro. The pattern is irregular and turbulent. Motte Nanbantetsu. Hitachi no kami Muneshige was also known as Tada Uheijo and became a disciple of Tsuda Sukehiro. He received Hitachi Daijo and used Nanbantetsu for making. Himeji, serving as Tada Uhe’s apprentice, he initially held the title of Hitachi Daijō. He used Nanban-tetsu for crafting. From Aoi Art: Hitachi Kami Muneshige often used Nanban-tetsu to create swords, and this blade is inscribed with “以南蛮鉄作之” on the back of the tang. This indicates the use of Nanban-tetsu in sword crafting, which was a rarity in its time, likely due to the cost and complexity of mixing foreign Nanban-tetsu with Japanese iron. This blade exhibits exceptional craftsmanship and is highly recommended. (In the description there was also a mention of rust near the habaki, I was unable to locate this rust near the habaki at all. But I feel like it might refer to some stains that are close to the habaki, there is NO active rust on the blade. Or visible at all. See images for a good impression) AOI IMAGES: SOLD Quote
