Bruno Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Hi gentlemen! http://cgi.ebay.fr/WWII-Japanese-Shin-G ... 19b7d26384 I am wondering if this sword I found on Ebay is gimei or not. I do not want to buy it, but since I read last posts on the gimei KOTETSU topic and that 80% of old blades could be gimei, I am try to identify gimei. I think the signature on the nakago BIZEN KUNI NORIMUNE is not very well done so is it gimei again? I would say....yes. But since the price have rised importantly in short time, I think that I could be completly wrong. I'll be glad to have your wise opinion(Jean, Stephen, Klaus, John, Steve and all the others friendly persons of the NMB) about that. Best regards Quote
ottou812 Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 1st kanji looks totally wrong. Quote
Bruno Posted November 16, 2009 Author Report Posted November 16, 2009 Thanks James. To be honest I did not make researsh on the kanji, the bad "hand-writing" itself makes me think it is gimei. Regards Quote
Stephen Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 Bruno Taking on the task of whether a blade is gimei or not is quite advanced. Great scholars who have studied Nihonto for years can not agree at times. Best to study the blade, if you want to check mei you'll have to purchase many books starting with Fujishiro Koto and Shinto, and Nihonto Koza....others will have books to recommend. the odds of finding a great name on Ebay is like hitting El gordo or Mega Millions. The seller in question is a good guy but he lists for others in Nippon who I don't have as high regard. Silly gaijin will buy anything with a name on it, esp on ebay. Quote
Bruno Posted November 17, 2009 Author Report Posted November 17, 2009 100% agree with you Stephen, thanks. Quote
