Bridges Posted December 18, 2022 Report Posted December 18, 2022 Hey all, I have discovered 2 separate Japanese police patrolman/sergeant swords. These seem kind of rare to me and these two are not having much traction on fleebay with one sitting at 450 and the other 6. My question is, are these blades (pictures below) machined or traditionally made. The patrolman/sergeant type is the only model intended for service thus, machined/handmade blades were utilized. I however, am struggling to see the difference as Dawson only provided a single example and both of these appear to be variations of that example. Quote
vajo Posted December 18, 2022 Report Posted December 18, 2022 The blade is out of polish and bad treated. The lines are sanded round. I see nothing on this blade. Worse photoshoped too Quote
Bridges Posted December 18, 2022 Author Report Posted December 18, 2022 @vajowhich one, there are two blades. One being on a carpet and the other on the still blue Quote
vajo Posted December 18, 2022 Report Posted December 18, 2022 They look both not good Noah. You need to see the nakago to say anything. Both are out of polish. No sharp shinogi line, no yokote - nothing. Ask for pictures of the naked blade without koshirae. Quote
Bridges Posted December 18, 2022 Author Report Posted December 18, 2022 @vajoi just requested them. I’ll post if either seller sends them. 1 Quote
John C Posted December 18, 2022 Report Posted December 18, 2022 Noah: I think the one blade with the blue background is from Hennadiy2006, correct? The blue background is kind of his trademark, just like Komonjo's wood floor. He has one for sale for 650 at the moment. I know he takes a long time to sell things because he is generally very overpriced. Not saying he is a bad seller or that the sword isn't legit, just think you could find something cheaper. Bridges Posted December 18, 2022 Author Report Posted December 18, 2022 Remarkable @John C! I am thoroughly impressed you recognized that. Indeed it is him and he also declined to provide pictures of the nakago. Quote

John C Posted December 18, 2022 Report Posted December 18, 2022 I think in this case the handle needs to be unscrewed from the back, so he probably doesn't want to damage the handle and is reluctant. John C. 1 Quote
Bridges Posted December 18, 2022 Author Report Posted December 18, 2022 True, I have a naval commissioned officers kyu gunto like that. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted December 19, 2022 Report Posted December 19, 2022 Both write offs and headaches. It really isn't worth wasting money on these sorts of problematic swords, keep saving and researching. 1 Quote
Bridges Posted December 19, 2022 Author Report Posted December 19, 2022 @PNSSHOGUN right now this type falls into the period I’m collecting and, these are the only ones available on the internet. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted December 19, 2022 Report Posted December 19, 2022 To your original question, it's what Chris said. With the photos provided and the surface abuse, it's impossible to say whether traditional or not. 1 Quote
