Steve I think you need to purchase some quality reference books that will help you determine some basic levels of quality and then learn to identify them in the swords you look at online. What is a "good sword" to you and what exactly are you looking to collect? For many of us our definition of a "good sword" is wildly different and will radically change as we learn more. O-suriage sue-koto is generally not associated with being "good", so unless you are particularly drawn to the look of the blade or the mounts your money may be better off elsewhere (i.e. good reference material).

Yes Agree probably shouldn’t use the word good
I should read more how ever I have a couple of books and been buying and selling swords for 7 years so I at least have the basics

I know these older long swords by known smith from good school holds value provided it’s condition !
I figure it would help to get feed back from more experienced persons would be helpful !I don’t want to make a huge mistake!
I wish there were places to buy swords other than EBay ! Pickens are slim on the forum and some dealers want way too much

If I can find a nice traditional navy with out any issue for a fair price I would be a happy

camper

Thanks

Steve,

You have been buying and selling swords for 7 years and you couldn't find any other place than Ebay?...(I'm sorry but this doesn't sound right)...Did you try Google? You'll find hundreds of dealers in Japan if you just google them..

I've read your posts but your questions and comments are very basic.."Good hamon, weak hamon, wild hamon, is this good smith etc.." Sorry but 7 years in the business and you sound like you have no idea..

Please listen to what John have said..buy some books..watch some documentaries on youtube...You'll also find some great resources online..

If you want to know about them just google them! Also, on this website, go to Nihonto info > Links and check out the Commercial tabs...
