I collect militaria so a friend came to me with his "Samurai Swords," and asked for help identifying and possibly authenticating them. ( and we will not be using any information gained from this forum without authorized permission)  It is not my field whatsoever , and I heard that here I could find informed opinions and factual information . So Gentlemen and or Ladies ,I offer you these photos for any information you might have, and I thank you for sharing your valuable time and information. My photos are lousy at best, but if necessary I will update with clearer photos. Have at em'!

The second one is not so easy to decipher on these images.  My best guess for the mei is:

嶋田七郎左衛門源義助 = Shimada Shichirōzaemon no Jō Minamoto Yoshisuke

The date appears to start with:

享保三 = Kyōhō 3 (1718 CE)

Thank you for your patience, here they are tip up. We do have a question though that maybe quite rudimentary yet I need to ask it. On one of the swords the pieces that form the guard ( sorry don't know the proper terminology) have a number 17 on them.I don't know if those are original, replacement parts or common or signify forgery. Okay now the pics, and gentlemen ,you have our gratitude, thank you.1665495917_IMG_15592.thumb.JPG.d4305a5b125a939a9ed262f05234f802.JPGIMG_1555_kindlephoto-9529255.thumb.jpg.80ee34841682d5eea1aaf2c82dee0a23.jpg496584646_IMG_15532_kindlephoto-9415875.thumb.jpg.67af10091f3444f087936b17e9de7ac6.jpg

The number 17 is on the gunto mountings I presume. This is normal And very common for guntos as they were usually numbered to know what parts go to what sword. The fittings are authentic to the blade, and not replacements.

Much clearer now.  Looks like I mistook a right (右) for a left (左)... Small correction:

嶋田七郎右衛門尉源義助 = Shimada Shichirōuemon no Jō Minamoto Yoshisuke

享保三天玄楮

The same blade was discussed here on this board not so long ago.
