Strange Tsuba

The caption says 'unusually large', and the explanation calls it 'giant', but no measurements are given.

 

Perhaps they were so time-consuming to make that simpler versions with symbolic features evolved into what are now more generally called 'Shingen' tsuba? 

Having just read Ray's excellent Varshavsky link above, I am editing this post. We live and learn!

 

The NMB thread link seems quite old; I think there are others on this site regarding woven Shingen and Mukade styles.
