Okan Posted March 11, 2022 Report Posted March 11, 2022 Hi there, Will be grateful if you can fix my translation. 良光斉東知 ? Also I couldn't make the last kanji Thanks a lot! Quote
kyushukairu Posted March 12, 2022 Report Posted March 12, 2022 The given kanji look accurate and are possibly read as ‘Yoshimitsu Saitōchi’ [良光斉東知]. The last character is not actually kanji, but a kao [花押], which is a stylised signature. I had a look in Sesko’s meikan, and unfortunately there is no such artist listed there. Perhaps one of the other members can check Wakayama for you. Quote
SteveM Posted March 12, 2022 Report Posted March 12, 2022 The only possible entry in Wakayama is 北島東知 (Kitajima Tōchi)*, which would make the first three characters (良光斎) an art name Ryōmitsusai. But Wakayama doesn't list any art name for Kitajima Tōchi, and a photo of a kozuka by this smith on another site shows it engraved with the full name of Kitajima Tōchi + kaō, and the kaō is very different from the one in this thread. For the smith in this thread, I do think its plausible, if not probable, that the first three are an art name, as mentioned above, and that the metalsmith is perhaps a Tōchi who is somehow connected to the smith listed in Wakayama. *Not 100% sure how to pronounce 東知, but Tōchi is the most likely pronunciation. 1 Quote
