Bruce Pennington Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 An ebay seller going by "smallsword" usually sells stuff at mid to low market pricing, but he must be changing his tactics. He's got a copper-handled Type 95 listed for $5,000 USD https://www.ebay.com/itm/304156671018?hash=item46d1267c2a:g:-QwAAOSwN8thS2Un and a Nagoya side-latch listed at $3,995 https://www.ebay.com/itm/304305232042?hash=item46da0158aa:g:uj8AAOSwTwJh4EKe He's also got a late-war 95 at $2,495 https://www.ebay.com/itm/403408572461?hash=item5ded06502d:g:EoIAAOSw3WRh4Eny Seems odd when the Type 95 market pricing seems to be slipping back down to the $1,000-$650 USD range. 2 Quote
dwmc Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 Seems to be a trend recently Bruce. A high "Buy it now" price along with a "Make offer." Dave M. 1 Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 And then people start to wonder why their "lowball" offer was accepted and they have to pay. Quote

Surfson Posted February 2, 2022 Report Posted February 2, 2022 I figured out who it is, and it turns out he is already a friend that I have dealt with at shows many times. Definitely reputable seller! Quote

I actually didn't doubt that, I was simply mildly shocked at the asking prices for the swords I listed. I had thought that prices were falling a bit, but after chatting with a couple other guys about some other swords, they say prices are still climbing. So who can blame him for starting high. If someone wants to make a lower offer, he's still on market price, but if a hungry guy with $$$ really wants it and bites, he makes out both ways. Quote
Surfson Posted February 5, 2022 Report Posted February 5, 2022 That's a good summary Bruce, and never doubted. I do like one of the pieces. Quote
Stegel Posted February 14, 2022 Report Posted February 14, 2022 Apart from Matt and Eric, he is also selling part of the Plimpton collection. I think you’ll find that most of what Bruce mentioned in the OP, is just that. The Copper NCO has been listed for sometime before that. No doubt the Plimpton swords may be on consignment, so a ‘reserve’ as such would exist. I’ve also bought from him and found him to be a good guy seller. Quote
