I agree it is an interesting story. I heard that these, or some of these Echizen Shimosaka smiths were moved down there to support their contingent, so many 1590s examples are not signed 'living in Echizen', as they weren't at that time. As to reference works in English, I am sure someone will be able to help. In the meantime let me check my books. Not much in English here though...........

 

There were also Shimosaka lines in Kyushu hailing originally from Ohmi, or Okazaki, according to the Meikan.
