Anyhow, it's my Kajiyama Yasutoku dated Showa 13 (1938). Earlier this year, it achieved NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon and has a long sayagaki by Tanobe Sensei. Thanks to some amazing help from the NMB member with the best looking gunto collection I've ever seen, John (@PNSSHOGUN), I may even have pinned down the original owner - a Major Taya Tsutomu in the Intendance Department of the Kwantung Army. Guest Simon R Posted January 1 Report Share Posted January 1 This current auction appears to be for an imperial gift Yasukunito made by Yasuhiro for Lieutenant General Kozo Goto of the 1st Division of the Imperial Guard. Very interestingly, it also comes with a lot of paperwork - including a "Certificate for Private Keeping of Arms" issued in November 1945 (Although the keeper is named as a Lt Col. Kunitake). https://page.auction.../auction/n1119395672 The blade almost seems to have a Heian Sugata and, despite having some rust and definitely needing a re-polish, is a beautiful blade as you would expect. I'd be interested to hear what other members think and Brian @Brian please feel free to move this to the general military sword section as a separate topic if you feel it better presented that way. I don't think that the Tanto from "Nipponto" the link you depicted here is an imperial Gift. The yasukuni toshu made after Tom Kishida's book (page 71) those Tanto, (Onkashi To) for the Navy staff collage from 1941 on, this was Hori Toshihide who was an appointed smith to the collage, had to become ill. The Tanto which was made from 1941 by the Yasukuni smith were also signed with (kin saku) beneath its Mekugi ana. The Tanto offered by nipponoto has a very early date and has a longer nagasa than the others made at 1941 as Onkashi to.! Please refer Tom's book page 71.! The earlier Tanto, (before 1941) which are very very rare, are mostly ordered by high ranking Officers, also according to the reasearch of the honorable Mr. Han Bing Siong. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
