Corry Posted September 23, 2021 Report Posted September 23, 2021 All, Any idea what this stamp means: Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted September 23, 2021 Report Posted September 23, 2021 Trystan, you're killin' me! You're determined to make me learn Japanese aren't you?! Ha! So: 大正 Taisho 1912 So could be a date? Could we see a broader photo of the nakaga where it sits? It would give more perspective as to it's possible purpose/meaning. 1 Quote
Corry Posted September 23, 2021 Author Report Posted September 23, 2021 It's actually off of this sword: Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted September 23, 2021 Report Posted September 23, 2021 Ok, maybe it's my browser, but many of the photos, including those of the nakago, are gone or not viewable anymore. Quote
Corry Posted September 23, 2021 Author Report Posted September 23, 2021 Bruce, Will those work? Quote
Corry Posted September 23, 2021 Author Report Posted September 23, 2021 I don't think it's a date b/c it's too early for this smith. As I understand this is the showa smith Yoshichika. Not, the famous one. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted September 23, 2021 Report Posted September 23, 2021 Right, and I have many mysterious stamps like this at the end of nakago of unknown meaning or origin. They could be a shop or forge logo. Someone proposed it was the polishers logo. I don’t have enough of them to pin any of them down to a particular smith or area shop. 1 Quote
