Hello everyone, there is this dagger on e-bay. Its represented as Navy, but i believe its railway official's. There is hamon line clearly visible and i would be grateful to get your opinion is it real or artificial. Unfortunately, there are no pictures of tang. my rookie's opinion that is not real, but maybe... ;)

thank you in advance for your help.

It is always difficult to be 100% sure from photographs of blades in poor polish but the hamon on this blade looks to be acid etched in which was not an uncommon practice on dirks from this period with machine made blades. there is no visible nioi guchi and the gunome is too regular.

Not a traditionally made blade imo

Not naval,

It is the 1909 pattern National Railways Board Junior Officer's dirk, and exactly as pictured in F&G. Same mounts, same black same, same "mon"

Described as having an acid etched hamon as presented here.

Dear Jacques, i'm sure you underestimate yourself :) could you be so kind to write what kind of book you are waiting to receive? i'm very interested in Japanese military on official's swords and dirks, however i find very limited resources :( i worship J.Dawson and still hunting Mr. Fuller's book about Military and civil swords and dirks, but maybe there are some other publishes?
