Original Mune?

Here’s one that looks odd to me and I am wondering if anyone else thinks so? I have heard of the Mune of a sword being replaced with one with a good signature but have never seen one. Is this one of those? Apologies for not posting more but it is not my sword.

Hi Harry,

I think you mean nakago (tang) not mune.  This one hasn't been replaced.  What you see on the side of the nakago is a stain, not a weld, and the slight indentation at the back is where a tsuba has worn away at the mune of the nakago during decades, if not centuries, of use.
