Sword returned to shrine

When the shrine began its crowdfunding campaign last August, it set an initial goal of raising 5 million yen ($45,000). But that figure was reached just 90 minutes or so after the campaign began. Over the course of a month, 35 million yen was donated to the shrine.

So the public still thinks Nihonto is important enough to raise $316,000? Wow.
Bit baffled by the part where they say out of the 77 damaged swords: "A crowdfunding campaign by the shrine led to donations far exceeding its initial goals, allowing for restoration of more than one damaged sword."

Umm...hell yeah? For $316K I would hope so! What are they paying for a polish? If they polish ALL 77 swords, that is over $4100 per sword. I would assume that should cover all of them and extra work.

Interesting that the sword mentioned was restored (polished) by a swordsmith not usually engaged in restoring rusty swords:ph34r:

I suspect this is a translation misinterpretation, the swordsmith was entrusted with the restoration as he would know the right people to carry it out.
