NewB Posted May 16, 2021 Report Posted May 16, 2021 Hola, Could you please help out at your leisure? I can't even see that close... Thank you all *prob gimei John Quote
Shugyosha Posted May 16, 2021 Report Posted May 16, 2021 Hi John, Hasebe Kunishige. A very big name, so there’s a good chance it’s gimei. An example here: https://yuhindo.com/hasebe-kunishige-2/ Quote
NewB Posted May 16, 2021 Author Report Posted May 16, 2021 Thank you for your time!!! I got it because of the nakago rust/shape. The jigane is amazing and the inazuma is as nothing I have seen. As we all say - buy the blade, not the signature John 1 1 Quote

NewB Posted May 17, 2021 Author Report Posted May 17, 2021 If I manage to put everything together for shinsa, absolutely I would. It seems like papered items bring confidence.. John Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted May 17, 2021 Report Posted May 17, 2021 Are you going to shinsa it with this signature ? I think knowledge brings confidence. Quote
Jacques Posted May 17, 2021 Report Posted May 17, 2021 Seems to be a katana but the tachi of this smith are very rare. The signature is on the wrong side and very badly imitated. Quote
NewB Posted May 17, 2021 Author Report Posted May 17, 2021 Hello all, Yes, I am aware it is gimei but as I mentioned I purchased it because of the nakago shape and rust primarily. It is an old blade with beautiful hamon activity and very pronounced ji nie. I am debating about This blade and based on your replies i probably won't be bringing it to shinsa. Paying to hear what I already know is money thrown away... plus I have a considerable amount that Have to go through shinsa so this one will be resting on the wall of shame for the years to come I am not worried about it Cheers John Quote
Shugyosha Posted May 17, 2021 Report Posted May 17, 2021 John, There’s no shame in owning a gimei blade. Don’t dismiss it out of hand: you feel it has some quality and the mei is aiming high so, whilst it may be a lesser smith, it may still be a decent one. Worth some further investigation in my view. NewB Posted May 17, 2021 Author Report Posted May 17, 2021 I wish I had all the time and knowledge John I appreciate all of your inputs! John Quote
