Is this Ebay blade a bargain, or there is something hidden?

Recommended Posts

I have my eyes on this blade:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Katana-Japanese-antique-sword-made-by-Kanemitsu-Kamakura-period-69-9cm-blade/265114032740

For a signed Kamakura blade, I found the price to be really appealing and right in my budget...Is it a legit bargain, or there are flaws I wasn't able to spot?

Thanks for your help!

Laurent, newbie :)

I concur that it is not a Kamakura piece.  But the ware aren't too terrible, and it's in good polish for what it is.  Even the one by the edge isn't hagire (I don't think).  That said, there are better blades for more reasonable prices being offered by the dealers who post on NMB.

Ara nie is something quite uncommon in Kamakura period; there were some smiths who forged in nie, but none with such hamon, so I would say its safe to say its Muromachi.

Nice blade, lots of ware, signature is poorly photographed to the point that its difficult to resolve first kanji. If its Mino Kanemitsu, it probably has decent chance to paper. Otherwise - may be not.
