Need Opinions on this Kabuto

Recommended Posts

Based off of my research so far Im not quite sure. Could this helmet be late Edo period or would it be a Showa period helmet? Seller claims it is from 19th century. Thanks all.

As the others have said, its a reproduction, late Showa period, potentially even later. The quality of the "Menpo" is significantly worse and not even close to the real thing.

Its a modern reproduction and in bad state..

So if you want a modern kabuto for display you can easily find  beautifull modern  Japanese kabuto in many websites they will be nice , in a very good state..

Absolutely, I will definitely start searching. Thanks all for the responses, I really appreciate it and am certainly learning! Now time to invest in some literature.

I won't be at all positive about this item. It is ugly and crude. The only - ahhh - positive issue I can raise is about it terrible  condition. I wonder if it might not be a bit older than others have suggested. How, I ask, could a Showa-era piece get so uniformly and deeply covered with surface rust?

Peter, here we find a ww1 or 2 helmet from time to time.   I can tell you, despite their age  they look at least kamakura ;-)
