b.hennick Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Francisco Couthino and I are working on an article (part 3) on kantei for the JSSUS Newsletter. We have problems with the following two tangs. Any help would be appreciated. Quote
Nobody Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Answer: 於武州江戸越前康継 (Oite Bushu Edo, Echizen Yasutsugu) 二ツ筒落 中川左平太 (Futatsu-do otoshi (or otosu?), Nakagawa Saheita) = Cut two trunks, Nakagawa Saheita +Kao 藤原清人作 (Fujiwara Kiyoto saku) 元治元十月四日於傳馬丁太々土壇拂山田吉豊 (Genji gan (reading?) Ju-gatsu yokka, oite Denma-cho, Taitai Dodan-barai, Yamada Yoshitoyo) = 1st year of Genji, 10th month, 4th day; at Denma-cho, Taitai (shoulder level) was cut on an earth mound, Yamada Yoshitoyo [Notes] “1st year of Genji, 10th month, 4th day” is equivalent to November 3rd, 1864 in Gregorian calendar. There was a prison in Denma-cho. Quote

Guido Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 I think 清人 reads "Kiyondo" in this case ... Quote
Nobody Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Guido is correct. Because the name of a friend at high school was 清人 whose reading was Kiyoto, I am sometimes confused. Quote
