No Hitsu Ana

Here are mine. I've left out some by Hallam students and others that have an aperture but may not be actual hitsuana

Some will be revival pieces and the odd repro

Normally I like to show big images but I'm restricted by NMB size rules but I don't see this as a problem in this case as I believe the outline is shown OK

the copper seven god tsuba also looks suspicious to me.
The imgur link I just see some code and letters .I really like the nanbam tsuba.
This one I have is very strange, two holes on each side have different patina on outer side, easy to see some metal piece has been attached, like ring or chain maybe, very strange.

makes me think of many high level casts we see sometimes here and there, what is suspicious is the black and gold color process.
I saw some meiji era cups, trays and other high quality engraving like this and the gold silver and other color are always solid inlays or foil plating process or at least mercury gold plating, and that tsuba has nothing like this on it, very suspicious.
I remember such a suspicious cast some month ago on the forum, some said it was legit, ford included, I didn't put a comment, s it's not easy to put comments of that kind here.
But some weeks later maybe, I don't remember,  I found the exact copy on yahoo, signature every pinch detail exactly the same, so I put a comment.
I also saw a rooster tsuba on ebay, looks the same, electroplating, patina on copper base, like used on modern iaito fittings (except gold plating)

Dear All.

Setting problems to one side there are none the less some really nice things being shown.  I am particularly drawn to No. 4 from Mauro, that lovely Namban and not a few from Grev's post, not to mention the original selection from Patrice..

If nothing else this is a very pleasant sharing of some treasures.

Thank you one and all.

All the best.

I see a few cast pieces and modern reproductions being posted, Daruma in his cave comes in lots of fake patina colours. As does the 'Tosa Miochin'

Of course the Daruma tsuba is a casted piece, as most if not all bronze tsuba, and it's quite modern in age. Does it mean a  "fake" tsuba?

Robert, it's the same tsuba (not refinished) but with a difference white balance. The color (assuming my screen is "correct") is pretty faithful to what I see in hands (the WB was adjusted in Lightroom).

I never really considered using a "grey card" to calibrate the white balance but that's one of those situations where it could be useful 🤔
