Mei translation assistance

Recommended Posts

Hello Friends,

I'm assuming the writing on this blade is gibberish, forged, made for tourists, or all of the above!

If it's not too much trouble, could you take a look?

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks and Regards,
-Daniel

Hello, not a mei, but a random and (probably) fraudulent name intending to make the sword look like a legitimate Japanese sword.

田中正夫 Tanaka Masao

Every bit as common a name as, say, John Smith.

Dear Daniel.

Everything so far about this screams that it is a Chinese fake.  Add some photographs of the rest of the blade to be certain.  Sorry if that is bad news.

All the best.

Thanks for the responses.  It wasn't expensive and seller had no information so I assumed it wasn't legit.  Fully aware a real version costs $$$ - looking forward to getting one someday.

Total length is 41", pics attached.

Great community here, thanks again for the feedback, I'll be sticking around!
