Son is checking all coins going through his hands. Pretty neat set up..it has Wi-Fi can send to phone tablet or even TV.

Id think lots a possibilities for study groups for catching highlights of blade or tsuba. Or just for us ol guys with failing eye site.

That looks really nice for seeing details and not struggling with a loupe and phone and the object in question all at once (impossible for me to do with two hands). I wonder if you could combine this digital microscope with a desk lamp or some other light source to better visualize coin luster/blade details?

I tried one of those clip on lens sets for an iphone but it wasn't worth the effort.  This looks much more stable and reliable as an independent setup.

Perhaps as Juan suggested above, an added but different light source would balance out the blue effect?

There are USB microscopes on amazon i would try.

Could you and Stephen let me know what brand of microscopes you have? I probably need one for home.

My other hobby is numismatics, especially ancients, and I’d bring coins to campus and use the stereoscope we have in lab to look at them in my free time. For really obvious reasons I can’t do the same with blades so I need a home microscope.

Do a Google search for binocular dissecting microscope. You can also get a digital camera that will put the image on your computer screen. When I taught high school Biology I used both. There should be many good used ones for sale.

When i'm in a museum (like the Tokyo national museum) and when blades are too far to have access at details of hada or hamon, i use a Nikon 5x15 monocular,  that's  useful to seriously study a blade (unfortunately one side only).

In museums looking at Nihonto, I like to use a LED light if allowed and I have cane with a drop down seat that I can use.

I think if u dont want to make your own horimono on your nihonto it is too much. :D
