ChrisW Posted April 10, 2020 Report Posted April 10, 2020 Hey everyone, I have this set of papers that belongs to a Mino-school tanto. I am requesting a translation if it wouldn't be too much trouble. Thank you all very much! Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted April 10, 2020 Report Posted April 10, 2020 Looks to me like Shinshintō Jumyō 1 Quote
ChrisW Posted April 10, 2020 Author Report Posted April 10, 2020 My mistake, I didn't even remember what school it belonged to! I'll post some pictures of the tanto itself below: Quote
ChrisW Posted April 10, 2020 Author Report Posted April 10, 2020 Do the papers say anything else anyone? Quote
Nobody Posted April 11, 2020 Report Posted April 11, 2020 The tanto was certified as a kicho token. The paper was issued on April 30th, 1972. 短刀 - Tanto 無銘 - mumei 新々刀 壽命 - (thought to be) shinshinto Jumyo 長 一七・九糎 - length: 17.9 cm 1 Quote
ChrisW Posted April 11, 2020 Author Report Posted April 11, 2020 Thank you Moriyama-san! Do you think this paper still holds weight and is proper? Or would this need to be repapered? Quote
Nobody Posted April 11, 2020 Report Posted April 11, 2020 Generally, those old NBTHK papers are not thought to be important. However, the tanto is mumei, and it apparently looks to be a genuine nihonto. So, if I were you, I do not want a new paper issued. If you are talking about its commodity value, I do not know the new paper's additional value to the tanto. 2 Quote
ChrisW Posted April 11, 2020 Author Report Posted April 11, 2020 Thank you again Moriyama-san! Much appreciated! Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted April 11, 2020 Report Posted April 11, 2020 Chris Jumyō smith lineage was Mino tradition, so you are correct that it is indeed a Mino tanto. Quote
Mark Posted April 11, 2020 Report Posted April 11, 2020 i doubt a new paper would increase the value more than it costs you. Hozon probably $1000 with postage agent fees etc and you can't even send it if you wanted to (as far as i know Japan is not accepting mail from the U.S. Quote
