Anyone ever have any success buying Nihonto from them and having them ship over seas?

I just got a notice that Im not allowed to bid on swords, etc... saying that its illegal to ship and even if I was in Japan, they couldn't ship it but yet the sale is shipping only with destinations all over the world including Japan...lol

What do you all think?

Hi Dwain,

It is NOT illegal to export Nihonto.  However, nihonto  require deregistration of the white police torokusho paper you see in the auction.  They also require an export permit.  Apparently, Buyee is not willing to learn how to do this for you.  Nor will they send other items which are over the EMS shipping size or weight limit, or require export permits.  If you unblock the item and buy it, they will not export it.  They will simply tell you to find an agent in Japan to which they can send.

I live in western Japan (30 years this May!) and have exported over 100 nihonto to happy clients all over the world.  I also export all means of other antiques and send you weekly offers by mail.  By all means, ask around the Nihonto Message Board.   Lots of members use my service.  PM me if I can be of service to you.

Just a note.

I buy almost all of my blades and tosogu from several well-known sellers on Yahoo auctions:

kanagawa_kottou   http://sellinglist.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/user/kanagawa_kottou

k_selection7            https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/seller/k_selection7

eiraku2014              https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/seller/eiraku2014?

kiraku2018              https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/seller/kiraku2018

majesta8739           https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/seller/majesta8739?

Regarding the Meirin shop, I have not yet bought there, so I cannot say it is a recommendation, just one more possible source.

I live in Australia and have used Kelly many times with oversize items like Yari Koshirae and precious DaiSho koshirae that I wanted care with. Every single transaction was perfect in every way - with lots of communication the whole way. I have also purchased a large Katana Tansu through Kelly, which was amazing.

Contact Kelly if you have any hassles.

I have had a great experience working with Kelly as well.  In fact, the first time I used his service, he saved my bacon.  I was aware that one can't buy swords on Buyee without a local agent, but did not know that items that sold for over 200,000 yen needed a special export permit.  Kelly stepped in and saved a fabulous tsuba that was over this price range and got it to me safely.   I can highly recommend him!  Cheers, Bob

Hi Stephen,

Well, that PO announcement was April 1, so I don't know why Buyee is telling you only now...

This is what I have been posting on my mail outs since then:

Please note that air mail to some countries is presently blocked (see PDF here:  https://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/information/2020/0401_02_en.html )
Even if your country is not on the list, there are few planes flying and Customs here is piled up...  There will be delay.
Seamail an alternative...

I can only assume that they will update that PDF regularly.

Currently the USA is not blocked, but I do have a few USA bound packages sitting in Osaka Customs since 3/30

still waiting for planes - probably on the bottom of the pile and back of the room by now.  Dunno.

If they are not able to send eventually, they will be sent back to me.  Then just a matter of waiting till things clear up.

Or ship by other method.  DHL may work - maybe - but I'd guess stupid money.  Seamail should work, but a month or more...
