@PNSSHOGUN Regarding the Kiri-Mon, I had looked up the picture of the mon previously and saw it was tied to the Toyotomi clan. However, with your naming it, then I found it’s a symbol of either the Japanese government or with this 3-5-3 Paulownia (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_Seal_of_Japan ), a symbol of the Japanese Imperial Guard. So, this wouldn’t represent the carrier's family but instead that he was a solider in the Imperial Guard?

I have a chance to purchase a nice kyu, but want a little more info before I pull the trigger. Seller thinks it is a Murata but the nakago is not signed. There is one small stamp that I am not familiar with. in addition, I have not seen a Murata with 2 thin bohi.

I have requested better pics of the blade itself, but I can't tell if it is an etched hamon. In one of the pics, there appears to be a nioi-guchi bordering the hamon. as always, thank you to everyone who responds!

Seller messaged me that he got it from the Plimpton collection.

I can confirm this sword came from the Plimpton collection, see the attached excerpt from the book. I recall it was a really nice example when I handled it. Hope it works out for you.

Had to add this one, owned by a Russian collector - Waids - at this Guns.ru thread.  Field grade kyu with a 1767 Kinmichi blade, chrysanthemum.

I realize this is an older post, but fwiw, that was another sword of mine and those are my photos. No cause for concern, glad the forum can reference them, though I should probably start adding a watermark. But the point I want to add is that I have historical photos of swords I have handled (e.g. > 100 Type 95's). If someone needs a reference check for a specific type, or is collecting data, always happy to see if I have something to contribute.

Great....now I'm gonna have the "Curly Shuffle" song stuck in my head all day... Hey Moe! Hey Moe! That will now be the name of the sword from this point forward...Moe.

"Oh how I love thee, let me count the ways"

My newest addition, thanks to a trade with @Stegel who snagged this amazing piece from the Lloyds auction recently.  It's from the Barnes collection, and featured in Fuller's book, pages 124-125.  Dawson states that there was a tremendous amount of variants produced between 1873 and 1883.

Army styled kyugunto, but with Navy anchor on the backstrap and drag.  I'm puzzled by the Army company grade tassel.  It's wrapped tightly, and wear indicates it has been there for a long time.

The leather is form fitted too tightly to get it off in order to see the rest of the anchor on the drag.

Mumei, maybe zoheito? @BANGBANGSAN @Kiipu?

Always wanted a Navy Kyu and finally found a nice one. Even has the tassel!

NTHK papers say the blade was made in the Eisho era about 1504-1521.  attributing it to the Uda Kunimune.
Nagasa = 25 1/2". (64.7cm)
Blade thickness at habaki is 3/16" (6.77mm)
Width at habaki 1" (2.54cm)
Width at Yokote is 9/16" (14.2mm)
Sori is 3/4" (19mm)
