Opinion on a Tsuba

I saw these two recently and don't know how to judge these athentic. Any ideas?

looks like a Chinese re-production.

Not sure about the first ( top ) tachi tsuba.

The second is definate paperweight, chinese paperweight.

well, hard to say about the tachi tsuba since " guilt by association " comes into play.

We have seen better tachi tsuba so I think you may want to keep your powder dry till a better one comes along ?

I would think there would be much more quality put in to a tachi tsuba. Look around the outer edges. They are uneven. Around the seppa dai looks like no use and is poorly done. My bet is chinese. No matter what, it is of poor quality, not worth buying IMHO.

can be seen here on the tachi tsuba. pretty crude casting on the base... as the dude said save your money.

thanks for all the feedback. I looking for an original shinto period tsuba but it does not have to be high priced one.

so the two tsuba are not from the same source.............

 

I have bought tsuba from Kunitaro ( the seller living in the land when boys have sticky fingers ) and so far not disappointed yet.

 

So the tachi tsuba is legit though not high quality but the second one is very very questionable.

 

If you are looking for an late Edo period tsuba and want it " cheap ", then anything less than 200 for this tachi tsuba is " reasonable " , meaning if you outgrow this later you can get your $ back.

It's good that you have had good luck from this seller. It's already up over 160 and there is 6 days to go. The color matches the fittings on my tsuka so it would look pretty nice.

Just remember this is a tachi tsuba, and as such it should form part of the koshirae for a tachi and not just a katana. Not sure how often (if ever) tachi tsuba were used on katana..does anyone have any comments on that?

I like to get some thoughts on this since I intended this for a katana. Being a new at this and looking at how the Tsuba was designed it looks reversible.
