An interesting sword that had a flurry of bids

So as I learn about swords I watch ebay for fun to see what swords go for etc...this one is in kind of rough shape but the blade looks a bit unique and stirred up some interest. The sword ended up selling for $1425.00 and I was wondering what you guys see when you look at it. What you can perhaps tell about it. One interesting part of it as well was that the seller knew nothing of swords and never displayed the tang; perhaps people liked a good chance and a bit-o-mystery. What do you guys think it could be? I've attached a link to a gallery of pics from the ebay listing.

Just to say, I wish everyone did the same as you, and haunted the auctions to get an idea of prices and what to look for. All too many buy the first damn thing they see.

iMHO, its a abit of a gamble.

the saya donst matche the tsuka, so one of the 2 are mistmatched. the saya appears to very neat but the tsuka is poor not to mention the configuration of the retention methd of a leather strap isnt consistent with saya's mechanical latching notch in koiguchi.

the blade with photos like that hmmmmmm, if theres a small hagire in the Ha, you have wasted your money

polish it/ new shirasaya and it papers late sue koto- mumei,  prob wasted your money/ or at best enjoyed to 12 month process.

just my humble opinion
