Thanks for posting Uwe. Interesting for some of us, like me, who have never been there. It helps to figure how it works. Do you have close up pictures of some blades ?

No. You had a better chance to make close ups when you used a mobile phone. In some cases the dealers jumped in the way: "No photos!"

So, that´s all I got.

Quick question: why do they not what you to take photos of their beautiful swords?

I am trying to convince my wife to attend next year when we take our annual trip to Japan.

Do any of the dealers speak English at all?

Most of the dealers either speak some English or have English-speaking staff that they can call over to help. It is also in their interest to make a sale, so they will do their best. Don't expect miracles, though!

I think the reason no photographs is the rule at events like this, is not so much for the swords themselves, but who is looking at the swords.

 

Some collectors don't want to be identified.

Malcolm is correct, but there are also several other reasons. Putting these all together the dealers are probably happier with a blanket ban.

Quick answer: They don´t know you, they don´t trust you.

 

Okay, it is a little bit more complicated. But in the end you won´t get any good shots. Time and light are the most important factors.
