double rice bundles but nothing with the single bundles

I have run into that with other mon, too.  I don't remember the date (it was way before WWII) they opened up mon to all families, not just Samurai.  By WWII, there were many variations to all the original themes, to personalize them to each particular family.  So, you may not find your exact image.

Although David's link above shows the Hatakeyama family,  most people instantly associate these 'Wa-chigai' rings with the Wakisaka.  (Uwe is the expert around here.)

...far from being that, Piers...

I found about 11 families “registered” for this exact mon. As Piers said, mostly associated with the Wakisaka lineage (脇坂氏).

Amongst the others are:

“曾雌” (Soshi)

”中井” (Nakai*)

“向坂” (Sakisaka)

“黒川” (Kurogawa)

”中村” (Nakamura*)

“小林” (Kobayashi*)

“恒川” (Kakigawa*), to name a few....

Note, (*) means, several readings possible!

Yep,

it’s a rice plant “稲”.

Closest I could find:

”鈴木” (Susuki) in this case. But I’m not convinced.....

Hi All!

Thought I'd show my collection of gunto with mon. Some of them are more well known and others that I cant find anywhere to try and research them.

Hope you like them as much as I do.

Gethin

I'm new to Japanese sword collecting so I'm not even sure if this is a Mon.

This is the pommel end of a Kyu Gunto I recently acquired which had a Nihonto blade mounted in it.

I'm wondering if it's a Mon or just some standard device that appeared on all swords or specific manufacturers?

I've prowled through page after page of Mons examples on the net but nothing looks like this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Steve N
