  1. 1. Which sukashi tsuba do you like the most?

Hi,

I was given a fairly vague request - bring some Really Good sukashi tsuba for a show and tell session.  As I have a lot of tsuba with holes in them, I'm at a bit of a loss at what to bring, soooo... I thought I'd try running a popularity contest - I put this up on the Kodogu no sekai FB page:

The idea being that the 1-2 with the most "likes" on their images will be the ones I take.  If you can hold your nose long enough to take a look, please do and... Like the image(s) of the piece(s) you think most represent sukashi tsuba/you like the most Early and Often :-)

And for those of you that just can't go there there, here are the er, contestants:

Thanks!!!

Number 6, then you can bring the story and useful life instruction from the 8 bridges in the iris pond motif our good members just recently went over. It’s still fresh for me so I would choose this one. I’m probably wrong on the symbology though due to limited knowledge of the many historical and narrative themes we see.. next favorite is #4 due to the symmetry and tricky undulations in the inner rim.

Brian,

if we look at the actual design lines on No4 it becomes clear that the shape we now see in some areas a bit reduced compared to where the flow of lines evidently was originally. What this shows is that the material has, over the years ,corroded away and that at some point in the distant past it was lovingly restored. The lumpiness is most likely due to uneven corrosion rather than any sort of unevenness in terms of the metals make up. I'm still not convinced that 'iron bones' are high carbon spots.
