TETSUGENDO Posted January 1, 2019 Report Posted January 1, 2019 Malcolm, The rumble before the 'big bang', the old conventions are falling away.....not there yet. Following the distillation of this image and those closely related to it, both pre and post 'THE image' is facinating stuff. Cheers, -S- Quote
Guest Posted January 2, 2019 Report Posted January 2, 2019 You could see it as a form of maquette for the final work, which is sublime. Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted January 2, 2019 Report Posted January 2, 2019 A comparable example. Compare the 1627 version(Chatsworth House) ,on the left, with the 1637-38 version(Louvre) ,on the right, of 'Et in Arcadia ego' by Poussin. This and the Yoshitoshi share the same huge shift in style, atmosphere, and composition. The compositional element is obviously more extreme in the Poussin...but I believe it makes the point. I think you'll agree that Poussin's final version is also sublime. 2 Quote
Guest Posted January 3, 2019 Report Posted January 3, 2019 Not to mention the whole raft of conspiracy theories surrounding Berenger Saunier, the Merovingians and Rennes le Chateau in respect of the version in the Louvre..... Is there a Dan Brown in the House?..... 1 Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted January 3, 2019 Report Posted January 3, 2019 Yes, quite a web of convoluted tales, is that the strains of Parcifal I hear? Cheers, -S- 1 Quote
